Kick-off Workshops: Co-Creating Climate-Responsive Housing in Self-Built Contexts
PSSI – Passive Solutions in Self-Build and Incremental Housing officially launched with a week of kick-off workshops bringing together research and practice partners from Germany, Peru, and Indonesia.
During the workshops, the consortium aligned its transdisciplinary goals, research design, and collaboration structure. Discussions focused on the case study contexts in Surakarta (Indonesia) and Lima (Peru), as well as on the development of shared methodological approaches.
Over the course of the week, the team:
- refined the project’s analytical and participatory research framework,
- co-developed diagnostic tools for fieldwork,
- discussed ethical considerations, governance structures, and capacity-building strategies, and
- exchanged perspectives with members of the advisory board.
The programme also included site visits and meetings with urban innovation initiatives to explore complementary approaches in climate adaptation, circular economy, and experimental urban practice.
The kick-off workshops established a shared foundation for the upcoming fieldwork phases and for advancing climate-responsive, low-cost, and community-driven housing strategies grounded in local knowledge and incremental building practices.
